When we first started working with this Western Springs couple, they were struggling with the layout of their current home. It had good bones, but the space wasn’t fitting the needs of their family. So they gave us a shout to talk about a remodel. Well, one thing led to another and before we knew it, remodeling was off the table and the discussion turned to new construction.

Their wish list for the new home? A first floor with plenty of room for entertaining, including a “grown-up” sitting room for the adults, a third-floor suite for their adult children with future expanding families and an extra-deep, totally tricked out basement with a home theater, billiards, workout room for cardio AND weights, and sports court for pick-up basketball games, soccer drills and the occasional family pickle tournament (the reason for the “Big Dig”)!

Once the project was underway, we got to work with Signature Cabinetry to design and install bespoke cabinetry throughout. With a nod to the exterior, we included Cape Cod blue cabinets in the kitchen and offset them with custom wood floors. A butler’s pantry was hidden behind the kitchen, as was a disappearing backsplash wall that drops down behind the range to allow for socializing with the cook. With so much open and bright space, we selectively included dark wood elements throughout to provide visual interest and depth. The sophisticated floating bathroom vanities provide timeless appeal and will remain stylish and relevant for years to come.

The homeowners considered finishing off the back yard with a pool and spa, but you know Chicago weather really keeps us on our toes. The solution? On the main level you’ll find access to a sauna, steam room and indoor spa pool with a massive NanoWall wall that opens to the backyard with the simple touch of a button.
